Typically a futures symbol's day margin is 1/2 its maintenance margin.
At this link: http://www.openecry.com/trading/margin-req.cfm Silver - 5,000 oz. GSI COMEX $ 12375 $ 12375 Palladium GPA NYMEX $ 4400 $ 4400 these symbols seem to be the exception. I'm fine with that. We were not reporting these day margin values to our users correctly. Unfortunately, other sources claim these symbols' (from same exchange of course) day margins also obey the "1/2 its maintenance margin" rule, or they have some other day margin value entirely. Below, the day margin is always the rightmost $ value: Palladium GPA NYMEX $ 4400 $ 2200 Silver – 5,000 oz. GSI COMEX $ 12375 $ 6187.5 http://futures-analysis.com/trader-tools/requirements-specs/ COMEX Silver Futures (5,000 oz) SI $12,375 $11,250 NYMEX Palladium PA $4,400 $4,000 http://www.visionfinancialmarkets.com/futures/tools/margin/ COMEX Silver GSI NYMEX $10450 $5000 Palladium GPA NYMEX $3850 $1,890 http://www.globalfutures.com/accounts/margins.asp Can you confirm that for OEC's clearing firm, for these two symbols, the day margin is the same as their maintenance margin? The reason why I ask is because we use day margin in our platform; we strive to give our traders the right information on how much cash they have to trade with at that time. Thanks! CHW |

Email reply from OEC confirms the day margins posted for GSI and GPA are correct. Thanks!
Also, that Platinum (GPL)'s day margin is the same as its initial margin. CHW Edited by CWeber984 on Sep 30, 2013 at 21:29:40 |

Using: http://www.openecry.com/trading/margin-req.cfm
-> Metals Typically a futures symbol's day margin is 1/2 its maintenance margin. It seems GSI has returned to being a typical contract, as its day margin has returned to being 1/2 of the initial margin. Is GSI's currently listed day margin of $4125 correct? Tx, CHW |
