When the GAIN GFAPI installer completes, the dialog box which offers the "Finish" button has a checkbox item that reads "Launch GAIN GFAPI COM [x64]" which appears to do absolutely nothing - perhaps it should launch some version info notes or am I missing something?

No, the behavior you see is correct :) It really is a quirk of the installer software we use, and nothing is supposed to happen. Sorry for the confusion.
